Mentoring

Welcome to MSU Denver’s Nutrition Department Mentor Program. Our mentorship program was created by the former Post-Baccalaureate Opportunities for Hispanic Americans (POHA) grant, the driving force behind developing a program that will serve our future registered dietitians. The POHA grant enabled our department to establish strategic partnerships and remove potential barriers to pursuing a career in Nutrition and Dietetics. As the department continues the mentorship program, we hope to provide undergraduate and graduate students the opportunity to be paired with a registered dietitian or nutrition professional in the field. The mentorship program will provide networking skills, leadership skills, establish clear and concise goals towards their career, building confidence, and learning different pathways in nutrition.

This mentorship program will have two designated pathways and will last six months or a semester.

Emails will be sent out and flyers in the newsletter will be posted advertising for new mentees.  Students will be selected on a first come first serve basis and will be notified via email about the selection process. The program coordinator will do its best to match students with appropriate mentors according to their preference, however, it is not guaranteed. Additionally, if students are matched with a mentor they did not select or choose, its suggested to stay with the mentor to learn something new from a person or mentor you may have not chosen.

Both pathways will require the completion of a meeting log to document the hours mentees spend with their mentor, however, it is not required. Mentors will have monthly check-ins with the program coordinators to answer any questions or concerns that may arise.
